I like the look of the women in Berthe Morisot's work. One of the only women whose work we can admire at the Musée d'Orsay , with Rosa Bonheur , Marie Laurencin and to a lesser extent Camille Claudel... She will achieve the feat of exhibiting at the show, among her male counterparts , without fanfare and without fanfare. No doubt because her talent was such that it emerged despite the impossible combination of the status of woman and painter at the time.

A singular destiny than that of Berthe, with a tortured and shady personality, obsessed by her art, the imperative necessity of creation. Painting, painting tirelessly is more important than anything. This vocation occupies him 100% with the other great passion of his life: his daughter Julie, model for most of his latest works.

The Berthe line takes up the principle of fitted bodices, which emphasize the bust, and blossom into peplums at the back of the waist. And the beautiful full skirts with drapes at the front and bubbles at the back. Like this woman leaning on a balustrade with a little girl next to her, like this other standing woman, who questions us with her gaze in an interior scene. Or simply like her, dressed in black and painted by Manet , her brother-in-law.
